Flashback Friday: Leaving the Country/Layover in Egypt

Flashback Friday is a picture series where we “flashback” to some of our memories – from either from our prior travel or from home. We hope you’ll enjoy some of our remembrances!

One year ago today we left the country. We left our home in CO on June 29th, but had the opportunity to spend a few days with Della’s uncle in New York state.  Then we headed abroad! We were pretty excited to have found a plane ticket with a long layover in Cairo – long enough for us to leave the airport and explore the pyramids! Talk about an exciting first day on the road!

Well – So, it’s not Friday… But, still, we thought this was a flashback worth having. One year ago today, we left Denver on one of the biggest adventures of our lives. We packed up super early and headed to the airport both excited about and terrified of what awaited us. Looking back, we feel so much pride in what we managed to do in this last year. For the most part, it was a collection of fantastic memories: one amazing experience after another. We’re already hoping and planning we can another trip like this again someday!

Look at our fresh (also tired because it was way too early in the morning) faces: ready for adventure! Here we come, World!

Flashback Friday: Carlsbad Caverns

Recently (you’ll read about it soon) we visited a large cave in Vietnam. It got us thinking about another amazing, large cave that we have visited together. On Spring Break of 2010, we drove down to Big Bend in Texas to meet Eric’s family. While on the way, we took a stop at the famous Carlsbad Caverns. This is truly one of the most magnificent caves that one can visit!

Tomorrow we celebrate Eric’s 32nd birthday! We thought we would flashback to one of Eric’s birthdays a long time back. This picture is from his party 2001 with the Dallas crew of friends. This was his senior year of highschool.

So, this week is Spring Break for Della’s colleagues back home, so we are remembering some of our spring break trips! The first trip that Eric and Della did together as a couple was spring break of our senior year, 2005. We took several of our friends and drove to Colorado to do some skiing. Our first stop though, was at a super underrated destination in southern CO called the Great Sand Dunes!

Flashback Friday: Beer Bike

March is Beer Bike month! What is Beer Bike you ask? Well check out this post to learn more. In short, it’s a yearly event at our alma mater that we both really enjoyed. Eric served on the pit crew for many years and Della was a biker, chugger, and coordinator of the event over time! It’s always fun to reminisce about our college days!

Flashback Friday: Winter Rendezvous!

Flashback Friday is a picture series where we “flashback” to some of our memories – from either from our prior travel or from home. We hope you’ll enjoy some of our remembrances!

If we were at home, we would have been planning and enjoying the 4th Annual Winter Rendezvous at our cabin during March. So, we thought we’d flashback to the very first Winter Rendezvous! This occurred in 2011. It is nice for us to see some pictures of snow while we are sweltering in 100 degree heat here in Bangkok and off the chart humidity. Oh snow, how we miss thee!

Flashback Friday: Tubing the Guadalupe River

Flashback Friday is a picture series where we “flashback” to some of our memories – from either from our prior travel or from home. We hope you’ll enjoy some of our remembrances!

Recently, we spent some time in Vang Vieng, Laos which is a world famous tubing locale. While we didn’t exactly get in on the tubing rowdiness, it did bring back some memories of when, senior year, we tubed down the Guadalupe River in TX with our friend Charles. It was a quiet and calm trip, but we enjoyed every minute!

After tubing, we enjoyed a catfish dinner in Clear Springs!

Flashback Friday: Death Valley, California

We were pretty excited to meet up with Della’s parents for the third time on our RTW trip this last week. It is their first trip back to SE Asia since their RTW trip 35 years ago. Naturally, this made us think to other trips we’ve taken with Della’s parents. Also, this is the first Friday in March… and March means it is getting close to Spring Break! This picture combines the two: a spring break trip out to CA where our first stop was in Death Valley!

Flashback Friday: European Sunsets

Flashback Friday is a picture series where we “flashback” to some of our memories – from either from our prior travel or from home. We hope you’ll enjoy some of our remembrances!

We’ve been experiencing some nice sunsets here in Asia, so naturally, we remembered some of our other nice sunsets from the road. During our self-drive safari in Africa, we saw some amazing sunsets almost every night. We shared some of those in a flashback Friday post. We were in Africa for only 6 weeks and came up with 11 photos we just needed to share. We were in Europe for much longer and saw much fewer nice sunsets. However, there were 14 pictures we wanted to show you. Enjoy some awesome sunsets!
